Smot Baby Room

A spacious extension to the original building, which accommodates babies and toddlers up to 18 months of age. There is an enclosed, safe grassed play area that runs parallel with the building and a playscape safety surface for toddlers to practice their walking, and plenty of grass to crawl, run and roll around.

As you would expect, we have a relaxed play ethos for the babies, while the toddlers activities are a little more structured. We encourage the children to interact with their little friends, practicing turn taking and sharing as they develop.

Communication between home and the nursery is very important so that the children's home routine is followed as closely as possible. Parents and staff have an opportunity to speak on handover and collection and the home link diaries provide information on your child's day.

We have a separate sleeping and changing room for the babies and the daily routine in room ‘Smot’ is designed to coincide with the pattern set at home. We have a wide range of stimulating toys and resources and plenty of space for your baby to explore and express their individuality.

Sali Mali Toddler Room

This room caters for children from 18 to 30 months. The age range in each room is not set in stone as all children are individuals, we like to be flexible as this is very often dictated by each child's individual development. The transition from room to room generally takes place when each child is ready to move up and only after consultation with you, the parents.

From the moment children arrive there will be a real choice of organised activities that varies throughout the year, we offer a wide range of age appropriate resources to stimulate and encourage your child's learning.

This room also has oodles of space; a sleep room, TV/DVD player, reading area and lots of roll play toys.  The large windows allow lots of light to flood into the room where panoramic views of Bryn Celli Ddu, green fields and lovely blue skies (when it isn't raining..) relax and calm the senses. Our learning activities will always include the following:

  • Sand & water
  • Book corner
  • Role play
  • Creative table
  • Numbers & Letters
  • Outdoor play
  • Art and craft section
  • Construction
  • Small world
  • Science area
  • Music

Sam Tan Pre-School

Another lovely big room, again lots of roll play, toys and resources are always available for the children to choose from. The daily routine in Sam Tan is a little more structured to help their development in readiness for Primary school. For example; the children are encouraged to interact during 'circle time' where they each take turns to speak to the group each morning.

We feel it important to encourage the children to accept small jobs like handing out the waterbottles and cutlery at meal time, as this contributes to the development of emotional health, wellbeing and relationships.

Learning through Play

The Early Years Foundation Stage is based around seven themes, the statutory Areas of Learning in the Foundation Phase are:

  • Personal and Social Development, Well-Being and Cultural Diversity
  • Language, Literacy and Communication Skills
  • Mathematical Development
  • Welsh Language Development
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

Our Ethos:

Babies and toddlers need continuity, we believe that it is important to work together with parents to ensure that the transition from home to nursery goes smoothly; for this reason we take an holistic approach and focus on following the home routine so that your child settles quickly.

Children love to be creative and to interact through role play activities. We feel that this helps them to explore and develop their practical and social skills. Through themes and planned activities our experienced staff will guide your child to achieve their full potential.

In order to attain higher standards, we have committed the Nursery to the Healthy and Sustainable Pre-school National Award Scheme via Public health Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government.

For more information on how we are progressing with the National Award Scheme please see our News page.
